Chapel St Gospel Choir was founded back in 1999 as Castlebar Gospel Choir, and has continued to grow and evolve over the years. Though rooted in Traditional Gospel Spiritual Music, the choir has also won acclaim for its interpretation through Gospel Music of all genres of music from Classical to Pop, and has collaborated with a number of artists both in Ireland and abroad. Since its formation, Chapel St Gospel Choir has participated in the Music Ministry at the Church of the Holy Rosary Castlebar and can be heard singing on the last Saturday of each month. The choir, under the direction of Kathy Fahey, has achieved success at both the Mayo Choral Festival and the KIltimagh Choral Festival, and performs regularly in its home town of Castlebar at the Linenhall Theatre, Christ Church, Museum of Country Life and The Royal Theatre, as well as other venues around Mayo. It has also performed at the National Concert Hall and venues in both The USA and Germany.

Kathy_Profile

From the age of 12, Kathy has worked with choirs, both teaching and as accompanist, at local church services and weddings, and by 18, she was teaching piano and had started training her first adult choir, after which time she studied Music at NUIM.  For the past 12 years, Kathy has taught piano, singing and handbells in schools all over Mayo, and occasionally travelling to other parts of the country on request.

Kathy is presently director of several choirs – Castlebar Gospel Choir, Vocalessence Ladies Choir, Ev’ry Voice Community Choir, Troubadours (male group), Belcarra Parish Choir and St Anne’s Children’s Choir.  Having performed in such prestigious venues as the National a Concert Hall, the American Ambassador’s a Residence, Dublin Castle, the Late Late Toy show, UK National Handbell Symposium, among her most successful projects to date are The Handel Challenge and Gospel Sings Disney.

For the Handel a Challenge in 2013 and 2014, Kathy trained a 100-strong choir to sing Handel’s Messiah in it’s entirety, over a 12 week period, performing with a 16 piece orchestra, and raising in excess of €50,000 for local charities.  Gospel Sings Disney was performed by Castlebar Gospel a Choir in June 2015, to audiences in excess of 1400 children and adults, 26 Disney favourites, complete with visuals.

Constantly running to a tight timetable, Kathy makes time  each year to undertake projects which will challenge participants, as well  as herself
